About Shametendo

Our mission

Shametendo was created to document and shine a light on Nintendo's controversial practices, a company often perceived as "family-friendly" and benevolent, but whose actions can sometimes go against the interests of its fans and the video game culture.

Our goal is not to "hate" Nintendo, but to promote critical reflection on its practices and to encourage the company to adopt more respectful positions towards:

  • Their customers and fans
  • The preservation of the video game heritage
  • The creation of fan-made content
  • Les normes éthiques de l'industrie du jeu vidéo

What we document

We strive to document various controversial practices, including:

  • Legal actions against fans, emulators, and community projects
  • Business practices that are unfavorable to consumers
  • Quality issues with products like Joy-Con Drift
  • Online services lagging behind the competition
  • Anti-preservation practices regarding classic video games
  • Restrictive policies regarding fan-made content and streamer content

How to contribute

This site is a collaborative effort and we encourage you to contribute:

  • Add a controversy documented and sourced
  • Suggest alternatives to Nintendo products and services
  • Share the site to raise awareness among others
